Best Gift Card Plugins for WooCommerce Compared (2026)

WooCommerce has no gift card feature of its own. Its coupons cannot hold a balance, be sent to a recipient or be spent across several orders, so every store that sells gift cards needs a plugin. The options range from free plugins that email a code to full programs with QR scanning, SMS delivery and in-store portals.

We compared eight established plugins using each vendor's own product page and documentation as of September 2026. Full disclosure: FMA Gift Card and Voucher is our plugin. We list it first, but we are clear about what it does not do, and several of the alternatives are the better choice for some stores.

Best for: stores that want the full gift card workflow, digital and physical, at the lowest paid price in this list.

FMA Gift Card and Voucher is sold on the WooCommerce Marketplace by FMEAddons. It adds a Gift Card product type, creates a code when the order reaches the status you choose, emails it to the recipient with a PDF, and applies the balance at checkout. The plugin documentation covers every setting.

2. Gift Cards by Woo

Best for: digital-only stores that want customers to keep a gift card balance in their account.

This is WooCommerce's own extension. Its standout idea is the account balance: logged-in customers can add a card to their account and pay from that balance on later orders without re-entering the code. It treats gift cards as prepaid balances rather than discounts, and it reports on issued, used and expired codes. It supports simple and variable cards, scheduled delivery, multiple recipients and the block-based checkout.

• Watch out: it does not issue physical cards or printable PDF vouchers, and custom amounts need the separate Name Your Price extension.
• Price: $79 per year. Rated 4.2 out of 5 from 51 reviews on the Marketplace.

3. PW WooCommerce Gift Cards

Best for: small stores that want to test gift cards before paying for a plugin.

PW Gift Cards by Pimwick is the most popular free option, with more than 20,000 active installs and a 4.7 rating from about 194 reviews on WordPress.org. The free version tracks balances, uses WooCommerce's own email templates, lets guests redeem without an account and works with the block-based cart and checkout.

• Pro adds: PDF cards, scheduled delivery, custom amounts, a customer balance-check page, QR codes, bonus gift card promotions, physical card import by CSV and a REST API.
• Watch out: most of the features gifting customers expect, such as scheduling and PDFs, sit behind the Pro version.
• Price: free, or Pro at $99 for one site.

4. YITH WooCommerce Gift Cards

Best for: stores that want lots of design options and a "gift this product" feature.

YITH offers physical and virtual cards, image galleries organized by theme, customer photo uploads, QR codes, PDF versions and scheduled delivery up to three months ahead. Its "gift this product" option lets a shopper send a card linked to a specific item. Admins get a usage dashboard, bulk code generation, CSV import and export, and manual balance updates.

• Watch out: the premium version needs PHP 8.0 and recent WordPress and WooCommerce versions, so check your hosting first. Most advanced features are in the paid version.
• Price: free version on WordPress.org; premium is a paid annual licence. Rated 4.4 from 133 reviews on the YITH site.

5. Smart Coupons

Best for: stores that want gift cards, store credit and advanced coupons managed in one place.

Smart Coupons by StoreApps extends WooCommerce's coupon system rather than replacing it. You can create, send or sell gift cards with fixed or custom amounts, let customers personalize and schedule delivery, track partial balances, bulk-generate coupons and store credit, and print gift certificates as PDFs. It supports the block checkout and WooCommerce Subscriptions.

• Watch out: it is the most expensive option here and is built around coupons, so it has more settings than a store that only wants gift cards needs.
• Price: $129 per year. Rated 4.4 from 234 reviews on the Marketplace.

6. Advanced Gift Cards

Best for: stores already using Advanced Coupons.

Advanced Gift Cards comes from the team behind Advanced Coupons. It includes built-in templates plus custom designs, scheduled email delivery, variable amounts in one product, a five-year default expiry and bulk codes by CSV import. When a card is redeemed, its value becomes store credit the customer applies at checkout or from their account.

• Watch out: the store credit model means the recipient redeems into an account balance, which suits registered customers better than guests.
• Price: from $99.50 per year for one site, or $249 per year in a bundle with the vendor's other plugins.

7. Ultimate Gift Cards (WP Swings)

Best for: businesses that sell online but also redeem cards in a physical shop.

WP Swings has the widest delivery options in this list. The free version covers digital cards, several pricing types, seasonal templates, email delivery, balance checking, expiry and a limited in-store gifting portal. It has a 4.7 rating from about 243 reviews and more than 7,000 active installs on WordPress.org.

• Pro adds: physical cards, QR codes and barcodes, SMS via Twilio, scheduled delivery, PDF attachments, group gifting, customer image uploads and an unlimited redemption portal.
• Watch out: scheduling and PDFs, which most gifting stores want, are Pro-only.
• Price: free, with a paid Pro version.

8. PDF Product Vouchers

Best for: service and event businesses: classes, tickets, experiences and prepaid services.

PDF Product Vouchers by SkyVerge is a voucher tool more than a gift card tool. You design printable PDF vouchers in a visual editor, add QR codes for in-person scanning and personalize them with recipient names and messages. Vouchers can also be entered at checkout for online redemption, can be partially redeemed, and can be limited to specific products.

• Watch out: it is built around printed vouchers and in-person use, so it is heavier than you need for simple online gift cards.
• Price: $129 per year. Rated 4.0 from 44 reviews on the Marketplace.

How to choose a gift card plugin

Most plugins issue and redeem codes. These six questions separate them.

1. Will cards be redeemed only online, or in a physical shop too? In-store use needs QR or barcode scanning and a redemption portal (YITH, WP Swings, PDF Product Vouchers). Online-only stores do not need them.
2. Do recipients need to spend the balance over several orders? Almost always yes. Make sure the remaining balance stays on the card, not lost after one use.
3. Do buyers want to schedule delivery? For birthdays and holidays this is one of the most requested features. Check whether it is in the free or paid tier.
4. Do you need physical or printable cards? If some customers want something to wrap, rule out digital-only options.
5. Code on the card, or balance in the account? Code-based cards can be forwarded to anyone. Account balances are smoother for returning customers but add friction for guests.
6. What is your budget and stack? Check the PHP, WordPress and WooCommerce versions each plugin needs, and whether it supports the block-based checkout if you use it.
